Psalm of Ascents Step 1: Psalm 120

Updated: Apr 29

The Lord puts on my heart that I've been in the Valley of Bacah, (weeping) a long time. Has anyone else been here a while also? God has shown me in the past several weeks the relationship of the Psalm of Ascents (Psalm 120-134) to the Southern Steps that lead to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. They were the steps the people of Israel used to walk up as they ascended from the Pool of Siloam through the Pilgrimage Road and up these 15 steps to the top of the Temple Mount to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles each year. It is what Jesus was celebrating when He called Himself the living water in John 7 where it says "In the last day, that great day of the feast (Tabernacles), Jesus stood and cried, saying, "If any man thirst, let him come to me, and drink. He that believes in Me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water." On each step, they would pause and pray a Psalm of Ascent.

As a part of my prayer time, I feel led to pray an ascent psalm or two each day until my birthday on June 15. That was the day I stood on those southern steps and heard the words in my spirit "You are home." It still resonates deeply with me and I think it will forever. So, if any of you are in a valley right now and would like to pray these 15 Psalms of Ascents together in the next two weeks, I would love it! We can pray together, even as we are apart. Pray as the Holy Spirit leads us! We start with Psalm 120, the first Psalm of Ascent, and see where the Lord Adonai will lead as we take one step at a time out of the valley and upwards towards His Holy Temple. Psalm 120 - In my distress, I cried unto the Lord, and He heard me. Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue. What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, O false tongue? Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper. Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar (speaks of Babylon)! My soul has long dwelt with him that hates peace. I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war. O Lord we pray for peace in our nation, peace between Your people, peace (shalom) in our families and in our lives. We pray for peace in the midst of chaos and courage in the midst of fear. We love You Jesus (Yeshua) forever! You are the only One who can heal our hearts and heal our land!
